Crypto Exchange Review

Phemex Review 2026: Is It a Good Platform for Futures and High-Leverage Crypto Trading?

I tested Phemex with real ETH/USDT perpetual futures trades at isolated 100x leverage. This review starts with what happened in that trading session, then looks at the platform's futures tools, fees, liquidation mechanics, automation features and security history.

Our rating 9.6/10
★★★★★
Bottom line Phemex makes the most sense for active crypto traders who care about futures, leverage and trading tools.

I liked the futures interface and position management in my own test. It is less compelling if your main goal is simply buying crypto and holding it long term.

Best for Active crypto and perpetual futures traders
Futures leverage Up to 100x on selected perpetual contracts
Base futures fees 0.01% maker / 0.06% taker
Charting TradingView chart engine and Phemex pairs on TradingView
Automation Trading bots, AI-assisted bot parameters and copy trading
My test ETH/USDT perpetuals, isolated 100x leverage, about 40 minutes
Platform overview

What is Phemex, and who is it best for?

Phemex is a crypto exchange founded in 2019. It supports spot trading, perpetual futures, trading bots, copy trading and other crypto products, but its futures platform is the part that stood out most to me.

Phemex says it serves more than 10 million users and supports 600+ crypto assets on its broader platform. For this review, I am much more interested in what happens after you move past simple buy-and-hold trading.

Phemex offers USDT-margined and coin-margined perpetual futures, with leverage up to 100x on selected contracts. It also has TradingView-powered charts, built-in take-profit and stop-loss tools, trading bots and copy trading.

My view is simple: Phemex is more interesting as an active trading platform than as a basic place to buy Bitcoin.

That is also why I wanted to test it with real trades instead of scoring it from a feature list. A futures platform can look great on a product page and still be frustrating when you have a live position open.

Firsthand test

What happened when I traded ETH futures at 100x leverage?

I traded ETH/USDT perpetual futures using isolated 100x leverage. The order history shown below runs from 9:16:43 to 9:56:45 on June 6, 2026, so the orders shown cover roughly 40 minutes.

The two closed PnL entries visible in the screenshot are +46.05 USDT and -14.77 USDT. Together, that is +31.28 USDT in displayed closed PnL.

I want to be precise about that number. The screenshot also shows trading fees separately, so I do not describe +31.28 USDT as a net-after-fee profit figure. The screenshot is more useful when shown as-is because you can see the leverage, order values, PnL and fees in the same place.

My Phemex futures order history. The screenshot shows ETHUSDT, isolated 100x leverage, order timestamps, filled values, PnL and fees.
Time shown About 40 min
Positive PnL +46.05 USDT
Negative PnL -14.77 USDT
Combined displayed PnL +31.28 USDT

What I learned from the session

The biggest takeaway was not the positive displayed PnL. It was how quickly a high-leverage position can change. At 100x, small changes in the underlying price matter immediately.

I liked that I could see the position, entry, leverage and risk information without having to move through several screens. I also found it easy to set stop-loss orders and close positions.

My workflow: I prefer to do the chart work first. Phemex uses TradingView's chart engine, so I can mark trend, support, resistance, entry and stop levels before I open the trade. With high leverage, I want that plan in place before the order is live.

Leverage explained

How much are you really trading at 100x leverage?

Leverage changes the size of the position you control, not the amount of cash you deposited. If you use $200 as margin at 100x, the simple notional calculation is about $20,000.

That is the part newer futures traders can miss. A $200 margin amount does not mean the exchange is treating the trade like a $200 position. At 100x, your market exposure can be dramatically larger than your posted margin.

$200 of margin at 100x leverage represents roughly $20,000 of notional exposure before fees, funding and exchange-specific adjustments.
Open the leverage and liquidation calculator

Enter your capital, leverage and ETH entry price to estimate notional exposure and an illustrative liquidation level.

$

$
Approximate total position $20,000
Your capital $200
Leverage 100x
ETH exposure 5.000 ETH
Estimated liquidation price $3,979.91
Move against position ≈ 0.50%
If you put $200 into ETH at 100x leverage, you are controlling approximately $20,000 of ETH exposure.
Educational estimate only. This uses an illustrative 0.5% maintenance-margin rate and a 0.06% close-fee assumption. Actual liquidation depends on the contract, risk tier, maintenance margin, fees, additional margin and Mark Price. Always use the liquidation price shown inside Phemex for a live trade.
Trading experience

What is Phemex futures trading like in practice?

The futures interface is the strongest part of Phemex for me. It brings charting, order entry and position management into one workspace without making the basic trade flow feel complicated.

Phemex futures trading interface
Phemex futures trading interface

Phemex supports perpetual futures settled with stablecoins and coin-margined contracts. On selected contracts, leverage can reach 100x. The platform also includes tools for take profit, stop loss and position management.

The charting is powered by TradingView. Phemex also makes its pairs available on TradingView itself, which is useful if you prefer doing technical analysis there and executing on the exchange.

Futures feature What it does Why I care about it
Up to 100x leverage Lets traders control a larger notional position with less posted margin. Useful for experienced traders, but liquidation risk becomes extreme.
Long and short positions Lets you trade in either direction rather than only buying the asset. Important for an active futures strategy.
TradingView charts Provides technical indicators, drawing tools and multiple timeframes. It matches the charting workflow I already use.
TP / SL controls Lets you define take-profit and stop-loss conditions around a futures position. Risk controls matter more as leverage increases.
Trading costs

What do Phemex futures fees actually cost?

Phemex currently publishes a base futures maker fee of 0.01% and a base taker fee of 0.06%. The important part for leveraged traders is understanding what those percentages are applied to.

Futures fees are based on the value of the position being traded. If you put up $200 and use 100x leverage, your notional exposure can be roughly $20,000. At the published 0.06% taker rate, a $20,000 market order is about $12 in trading fees for that side of the transaction. An opening and closing taker order at the same notional size would be about $24 before funding, slippage or other adjustments.

Cost Published base rate What to know
Futures maker 0.01% Typically applies when your order adds liquidity.
Futures taker 0.06% Typically applies when your order removes liquidity, including market orders.
Funding Variable Phemex states that perpetual funding is exchanged every 8 hours between longs and shorts.
VIP tiers Lower rates may apply Qualifying higher-volume traders can receive reduced fees.
Why fees can feel large at high leverage: the percentage may look small, but the fee is tied to the notional position. Your posted margin can be a small fraction of that position when leverage is high.
Beyond manual futures

What else can you do on Phemex besides manual futures trading?

Futures are the reason I would personally consider Phemex, but the platform has grown beyond manual order entry.

AI-assisted trading bots

Phemex introduced an AI Bot in 2026 that can generate trading parameters using its AI engine. In practical terms, it can help set parameters for automated strategies instead of making you configure every input manually.

I would still treat it as automation, not prediction. A bot can automate a strategy and still lose money.

Copy trading

Phemex also offers copy trading, which lets users follow eligible lead traders and mirror selected trading activity. This can be useful if you want a more hands-off approach, but it does not remove market risk or guarantee that future results will match a lead trader's history.

Mock trading

Phemex promotes simulated or mock trading as a way to learn the platform without putting real capital at risk. That is a sensible place to learn the order screen before moving into leveraged futures.

Risk mechanics

How does liquidation work on Phemex?

Phemex uses Mark Price for liquidation. That means the last traded price on the chart is not necessarily the number that determines whether your leveraged position is liquidated.

Phemex says liquidation occurs when position equity falls to the required maintenance margin. In isolated mode, the position is evaluated using the margin assigned to that position and its unrealized PnL.

This is also why I would not reduce 100x leverage to a simple rule such as "a 1% move liquidates you." Maintenance margin, fees, the contract's risk tier, extra margin and Mark Price all affect the actual liquidation level.

Important: Phemex says liquidation is triggered by Mark Price. Stop-loss orders can be configured with Mark Price or Last Traded Price triggers. If you trade futures, check the liquidation price and the trigger type shown in the actual Phemex order screen before placing the trade.
Security

Is Phemex safe to use?

I would describe Phemex's security story as stronger today than it was before 2025, but I would not leave the 2025 incident out of a serious review.

Current controls

Proof of Reserves and cold storage

Phemex currently highlights Merkle-Tree Proof of Reserves, multi-signature controls, institutional custody and a cold-warm-hot wallet structure. Phemex says more than 70% of user assets are kept in cold wallets.

Security history

January 2025 hot-wallet incident

Phemex disclosed a hacker attack affecting its hot-wallet infrastructure on January 23, 2025. Deposits and withdrawals were temporarily restricted while the company responded. Phemex later stated that withdrawal services had been restored.

That history is why security is not the strongest part of my score. Proof of Reserves and custody controls are useful transparency measures, but they do not make any crypto exchange risk-free.

Final verdict

Would I trade on Phemex again?

Our rating 9.6
★★★★★

Yes. The reason is not that one short trading session showed positive closed PnL. I liked the actual futures experience: the order screen was easy to understand, position management was straightforward and the platform gave me the tools I wanted for active trading.

I would choose Phemex primarily for futures, leverage, charting and automation. If I only wanted to buy Bitcoin and hold it, I would compare simpler exchanges as well.

What I like

  • Up to 100x leverage on selected futures contracts
  • TradingView-powered charting
  • Simple futures order and position management
  • 0.01% maker / 0.06% taker base futures fees
  • AI-assisted bots and copy trading

What I would watch

  • High leverage can liquidate a position very quickly
  • Fees are applied to notional trade value, which matters at high leverage
  • The January 2025 hot-wallet incident belongs in the security assessment
  • The platform may be more complex than a simple buy-and-hold app

Firsthand trading disclosure: The Phemex trading-history screenshot reflects the author's own ETHUSDT isolated 100x futures activity. The two closed PnL values shown add to +31.28 USDT. Trading fees are displayed separately, so this page does not describe that figure as net-after-fee profit.

Risk disclosure: Cryptocurrency futures and leveraged derivatives involve substantial risk. Leverage magnifies gains and losses and can result in rapid liquidation. Trading bots, AI-generated parameters and copy trading do not guarantee profits.
